What's New in Version 3.2.1

Happy new year everyone!

Our New Year's resolution is to forever change your life. We're completely serious. But for now, let's start the new year with some big improvements for brushes, Apple Pencil, and some other stuff.

- When you stroke things and they get bigger everyone feels uncomfortable. We've fixed taper so it stays appropriately sized.
- Rapid Undo was moving too fast for some people. Now you've got control over this relationship. You can even end things completely if that's your Preference.
- When you tried to remove a saved canvas size by dragging it out of the Create menu, it didn't do that, but it did remove the ability to even Procreate.
- We put an unnecessary amount of pressure on the beginnings of strokes. We've resolved to be kinder in the new year.
- Making a perfectly straight one-pixel line no longer causes the layer thumbnail generator to crash Procreate.
- PSD is an enigmatic format. It holds many mysteries, and not even its creators truly understand it. We've delved deep into its dark secrets to make sure Procreate works with as many different PSD files as possible.
- What is the color of nothing? A lot of you were finding out with the eyedropper, but it didn't seem to help much.
- Pasted image thumbnails seemed to believe that canvas flips didn't apply to them, but ignorance is no excuse.
- Alpha Lock swipe gesture is now much more tolerant and accepts swipes of all different types.
- Taking a Transform Distort too far would distort the Distortion. This problem is now distorted. Sorted. Fixed. Whatever.
- No-one likes being lock-blocked when they're trying to Procreate. Transforming a Group containing a hidden layer no longer leaves you frustrated.
- Tiny brushes are back, baby.

Thank you all so much for your support throughout 2016. If you have a moment we'd love you to share your experience by leaving a review on the App Store. We've made some amazing things together in the last year, and 2017 is going to be even better.

Absolutely amazing.

After developing drawing skills with all the other apps that have been released for the iPad, I wasn't expecting anything exciting from a new tool. Maybe things were going to get better with updates of the old players...

But today I've been blown away with the possibilities Procreate bring to all of us.

And I'm using it in the iPad 1... Seems like the new one is going to be more amazing even with a tool like this.

Thanks to the team... and keep the AMAZING WORK!

Amazingly fast

I have bought every app Savage has made and I have been thoroughly impressed. Especially by this one.

I have Sketchbook Pro on my iPad and while I do like it, it seems development for it has stopped. It also feels slightly bloated with noticeable lag even on an iPad 2.

Not the case with Procreate. This app is lag-free. The interface is nice and unobtrusive. You can create custom brushes and modify stock versions. It just feels good to use. From what i have read these guys have gone through great pains to build this custom painting engine and the upcoming 1.5 update will apparently include 1920 x 1048 canvas size. That is just insane!

The examples of art included with the app are stunning and show you what the app is capable of if you're willing to put forth effort. At $8, I feel like these guys are giving away their app. Easily worth more than they're charging so grab it while it's on sale.

Keep developing this app guys and I'll continue to tell any artists about it. Now, back to painting.

Great app, great painting app. Look forward to it's future.

Procreate is simply one of the best painting apps I've used on the iPad / iPad 2.

The UI is thoughtfully designed and works incredibly well. The painting and smudging tool experience is the best I've used on the iPad yet. It doesn't feel like standard painting, it somehow feels better. The canvas size is slightly smaller than the iPad's screen resolution, but for posting to the web or making smaller prints this will be fine. I'm hoping for higher resolution in an update, either way it doesn't hinder the painting experience.

Procreate is a strong competitor when stacked against Brushes and Inspire Pro painting apps. The developer is responsive and actively planning updates to the app. This is important because the advancement of the other mentioned apps has all but stopped. With some key updates Procreate will stand up and move ahead of it's competitors as the best painting app on iPad.

Some may have gripes with the $9.99 price, but I don't. I purchased at the sale price of $7.99 and after using the app would gladly pay full price. This may be the future of painting on the iPad. If you want to try digital painting on the iPad, procreate is a great tool.
